The three-times mayor of New York plans to unseat President Trump in 2020

Another voice has been added to a crowded field of Democratic contenders seeking to lock horns with Republican President Donald Trump in the November 2020 election. He is none other than the anti-gun, anti-sugar, anti-salt business titan and erstwhile mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg.

The 77-year-old's entry to the race was ridiculed by the White House as a sign of the inadequacies of the other potential candidates despite almost a year of campaigning.
The businessman is worth over $50 billion and plans to spend up to $34 million on a week of adverts in more than two dozen states from today.

Hear Mr Bloomberg, “I’m running for president to defeat Donald Trump and rebuild America. We cannot afford four more years of President Trump’s reckless and unethical actions.”

However, Mr Bloomberg must overcome a few huddles. He has missed the first five TV debates. He may therefore struggle to qualify for the sixth next month because of the benchmarks required in polling.

Standing between him and the Party nomination are fellow septuagenarians Joe Biden, the former vice-president, and senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
