Mexican-American Andy Ruiz Jnr and Briton Anthony Joshua face off in Saudi Arabia on 7th December, 2019 over World Heavyweight title belts
As the heavyweight duo prepare to meet again in a highly-anticipated rematch next week, Andy Ruiz Jnr is fully determined to prove that his earlier victory over the Londoner was no fluke. The pair had fought each other in New York City in June when Joshua was reduced to pulp in seven rounds.
Ruiz was full of confidence as he touched down at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Tuesday.
Andy Ruiz arrives in Saudi Arabia
Joshua is already in Saudi Arabia after he arrived on Sunday with his huge entourage in tow.
The Londoner is desperate to reclaim the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO belts and set up a unification fight in 2020 with WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
Joshua tours the fight arena
The boxers are shunning all the traditional meccas of boxing, Madison Square Garden, the MGM Grand and the Principality Stadium. These are places steeped in boxing history fit for world championship boxing.
Instead, Ruiz Jr and Joshua will do battle in Diriyah, a suburb in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The town is located in the north-western region of Riyadh and was the original home of the Saudi royal family. The region, known as the home of heroes and kings, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.
