He served as a vice-president of the Trump Organization and special counsel to Trump, and was previously co-president of Trump Entertainment. He was also a board member of the Eric Trump Foundation, a children's health charity. He had joined the Trump Organization after having been a partner at Phillips Nizer.
University-educated Michael Dean Cohen was born on August 25, 1966 in Long Island, New York, U.S. After Law School Cohen began practicing personal injury law in New York in 1992, working for Melvyn Estrin in Manhattan.
This week, the lawyer pleaded guilty to eight felonies, including campaign finance violations. He disclosed to a New York court that the President ordered him to make secret payments to women who had alleged affairs with Mr Trump — a statement that implicated him in federal crimes.
Mr Cohen was upset and slowly began to turn against his former boss after the FBI’s raids on his home and offices in April, where agents seized documents related to the payments. Distancing themselves from him, the Trumps also soon stopped paying Cohen’s legal fees with the president insisting that Cohen acted on his own when $130,000 was paid to Stormy Daniels, a pornographic actress who alleges an affair with Mr Trump.
Mr Cohen then realised he was on his own after being used and dumped by the Trumps. According to The Wall Street Journal, Cohen’s father, Maurice, urged him to turn against the president, saying that he did not survive the Holocaust only to have his name sullied by Mr Trump.
Shortly after Cohen pleaded guilty, Mr Trump tweeted: “If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you don’t retain the services of Michael Cohen!”
