Hate preacher Abu Hamza has despatched a gushing letter praising President Donald Trump while he languishes in an American “supermax” jail
Egyptian-born hate preacher Abu Hamza gained notoriety during his preaching career in London where he managed to radicalise hundreds of people. Hamza was later sent to America to face justice. The former imam of Finsbury Park mosque in north London now spends his days in the prison yard at ADX Florence in Colorado.
Hamza's 40-page missive, something of a fan mail, was posted to the White House earlier in the year. The letter has come up in US court filings as he appeals against his life sentence for terrorism offences.
In his letter, Hamza complains that he is subjected to “sleep deprivation” by having “mechanical squeechy [sic] sounds and computer sound files” constantly pumped into his cell. However, he insists his moan is not an attempt to influence the president in his appeal.
The most interesting part of the correspondence was where Hamza praised Mr Trump and even gave him tips on how to deal with his political adversaries.
He counselled the president to bypass the “fake/corrupt” mainstream media by setting up his own White House television channel.
Hamza also referred to Robert Mueller, the former FBI chief investigating Russian interference in American elections. He described the probe as a “witch-hunt” intended to depose Trump. The cleric went on to encourage the president to continue regardless in his “noble mission.”
