Wang Jian, the co-founder and chairman of China's HNA Group has died after a fall during a sightseeing trip to France.
The 57-year-old billionaire fell from a wall in Bonnieux, a hilltop village in Provence, while taking photographs.
The HNA Group is a self-proclaimed “giant international enterprise” with interests in aviation, tourism, logistics and finance. It is the biggest shareholder in Deutsche Bank.
The dead tycoon has a stake of 15 per cent in the conglomerate.
Lieutenant-Colonel Hubert Mériaux, of the regional gendarmerie force, said the tycoon fell backwards down a precipice. “He had climbed onto the wall in the centre of Bonnieux and he had a fall of about 15 metres.”
In a statement HNA said:
“We mourn the loss of an exceptionally gifted leader and role model, whose vision and values will continue to be a beacon for all who had the good fortune to know him, as well as for the many others whose lives he touched through his work and philanthropy.”
