Robert Mugabe and Nelson Mandela
For reasons best known to him, the ailing president Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe has claimed that Nelson Mandela was more concerned with securing freedom for himself than the economic emancipation of his black countrymen.
Referring to the late South African icon, Mr Mugabe told a rally, ''He cherished that freedom more than anything else and forgot why he was put in jail.''
One may never know how the Zimbabwean leader arrived at this conclusion but South Africa has rejected the claims.

Gwede Mantashe, the secretary-general of the African National Congress, the ruling party in South Africa, replied that Mr Mugabe had effectively destroyed Zimbabwe's economy.
An enraged Mr Mugabe responded by saying that Mr Mantashe was ''stupid'' and that his party was still under the yoke of colonisers.
