In a country where about 250 million people are on their own, singletons have decided to turn to expensive courses in romance in a determined bid to find a partner.

This development could only have led to a booming dating industry in the world's most populous country.  Despite the fact that dating apps are popular, many people are frustrated with internet dating.  This has led to people spending up to £23,000 a year on membership fees for offline matchmaking services, as well as courses teaching them dating etiquette.

The Chinese dating industry was worth £300 million in 2015.  The figure is rising as more services become available.

Speaking to Global Times, a newspaper, a 28-year-old Beijing woman said that she had spent £1,350 on a six-month online course of dating tips and £180 to join a dating club that organised social events.  Hear the woman,
''You can pay for extra activities as well so that you can have more chances to meet the right person.  She added, ''Many of my single friends have bought dating services.

In the Chinese capital men have been known to pay up to £830 for a week-long course with a male ''attracting expert.''  The course would normally include field trips to shopping malls and nightclubs to talk to women, and guidance on how to give compliments.  There is also the live online date support via the messaging app WeChat.
