The former striker was known as the 'Baby-faced Assassin' during his playing days at Manchester United due to his predatory goal-poaching skills
When Jose Mourinho was fired by Manchester United on 18th December, 2018, many of the club's army of fans around the world did not quite know where their team was headed. Three managers, household names, had tried but failed spectacularly to rise up to the occasion. The Executive Vice-Chairman, Woodward, was looking pitiably out of his depth at being able to land a suitable manager.
Now, less than three months after Mourinho's departure, the story has changed. United have sauntered into the quarter-finals of the Champions League. They are fourth in the Premier League and are also in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
The cloud over the club has lifted. Their American owners, the Glazier family, are happy once again. The money-spinning behemoth is back on its feet.
Parisians, the PSG team lost 1-3 to United in Paris
That United were able to eliminate money-bags PSG from Europe's premier club competition in Paris without ten of their first team players was in itself a miracle.
The struggling team was brought back from the dead, not by David Moyes, the man who was installed immediately after Ferguson retired nor by the Dutch tactician, Louis Van Gaal, a former Champions League winner.
The Red Devils did not become resurgent under Portuguese narcissist Jose Mourinho.
The man who has done the almost impossible job is none other than a former United player, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He has got the team playing like the United of old.
Solskjaer was only brought in as an interim boss before a permanent appointment is made.
With only one loss in eighteen games, most people now believe the Norwegian should get the job on a permanent basis.
