Mr Chamisa and president Mnangagwa
The presidential election in Zimbabwe has come and gone. As the nation waits feverishly for the results, the first indications were that the ruling party Zanu-PF may be coasting home. Early results have shown that it has gained 110 seats, against the opposition’s 41. The stage is therefore being set for Emmerson Mnangagwa to triumph.
The fear now is that, considering the aggressive rhetoric of the leader of the opposition party, Mr Nelson Chamisa, the country's peace could be threatened should Mr Mnangagwa be declared winner of the election.
Already, Chamisa's MDC have declared themselves the winners. However, the party leader is preparing his supporters for “a fake result.” He said that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission was plotting to “reverse the people’s presidential election victory” during the hours spent releasing parliamentary results.
Mr Chamisa added, “The strategy is meant to prepare Zim mentally to accept fake presidential results. We’ve won more than ED [Mr Mnangagwa]. We won the popular vote and will defend it!”
