The people of North Korea too have been struggling to cope with the heatwave that has gripped much of the northern hemisphere
According to UN officials, nearly half of the country’s population of ten million are undernourished. This is due to extreme high temperatures and droughts have begun affecting farming crops, including rice and corn in Hwanghae provinces and other areas of the country.
The United Nations has therefore moved to provide humanitarian assistance to the rogue state.
However, this will be strictly in line with the newly approved humanitarian guidelines, proposed by the US. This will enable aid groups to operate in North Korea without violating the strict economic sanctions on the country.
According to Yonhap, a news agency, Seoul hopes the UN’s move could become a “chance for resolving realistic difficulties in North Korea aid activities and vitalising the international community’s assistance for it.”
