One dutiful daughter and the conservators of Ashdown Forest
There is no doubt that Johanna Konta is a dutiful daughter and she wishes to thank her long-suffering mother and father for having devoted themselves to supporting her sporting ambitions.
Konta’s Hungarian parents, Gabor and Gabriella, experienced a lot of financial difficulties when they brought their young daughter to Britain from Australia. She was aged just 14. Despite this, they stood by her making sure she was able to realise her dream of becoming a tennis star.
The No 1 female British tennis player said that she wanted to spend some of her prize money on providing her parents a place in the country. Many observers were enthralled by Johanna's plan. They cheered her for this brilliant gesture from a dutiful daughter.
Surprisingly, however, these same observers have now refused to continue smiling. This was after Konta unveiled her plan. 27-year-old Konta's plan is to build a bespoke home for her parents on the edge of Ashdown Forest, the inspiration for AA Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh andThe House at Pooh Corner. This led to an uproar.
Conservation experts are claiming that the building off the A22 at Wych Cross would mean the destruction of ancient woodland.
Of late, the government has increased the protection for ancient woodland, stating that any development that damaged it should be refused “unless there are wholly exceptional reasons”.
