Immediate past British foreign secretary Boris Johnson recently compared women in face-covering veils to bank robbers and letterboxes
Recently, when Boris Johnson likened burka-wearing women to letterboxes he was lambasted in some quarters. Some people even demanded an apology from him. However, Mr Johnson has remained silent on the issue.
Now, Mr Johnson has found an unlikely ally in a prominent imam who defended him saying the former foreign secretary was in order.
Taj Hargey, the imam at Oxford Islamic Congregation, said that Mr Johnson should “not apologise for telling the truth” and that he did not go far enough.
Dr Hargey, in a letter to The Times, said that there was “no Koranic legitimacy” for the burka, adding that it was “a nefarious component of a trendy gateway theology for religious extremism and militant Islam”.
