Germany coach Joachim Löw is to continue in his job despite the debacle that saw the holders crash out of the World Cup at the group stage
The German Football Association (DFB) have shown that they are no fair-weather friends having decided to stand by a coach who has consistently delivered until the disaster in Russia.
The governing body confirmed yesterday that the 58-year-old will stay on to rebuild the team, which finished bottom of group F after defeats by Mexico and South Korea.
The whole nation was reeling after Germany, for first time in 80 years, failed to get past the first round at a World Cup finals. Make no mistake, it was a huge dent to Löw’s reputation after 12 successful years in charge, but the DFB said that it would not sack him.
A grateful Low was purring. He said :
“I am very grateful for the belief that the DFB has shown in me and I feel, generally, that despite the justified criticism towards me, I feel a lot of support and encouragement too. It was important for me, after a few days in which I did a lot of thinking, to sit down and have a one-to-one talk with the top of the federation.”
