Having gathered intelligence that Alisson has indicated that Liverpool is his preferred destination, the Champions League finalists have made their move. They have bid £62 million for the Brazilian.
Liverpool's offer is a world-record fee for a goalkeeper but the bid still fell short of Roma’s valuation of nearly £67 million. Jurgen Klopp is not unaware that Chelsea and Real Madrid are also interested in Allison.
It has also come to light that Chelsea are prepared to pay as much as £70 million for Alisson but need to complete a deal for a goalkeeper to allow Courtois to move to Madrid.
Whatever happens, Liverpool know that if they are to challenge for the title they need to sign a goalkeeper, as Karius and Simon Mignolet, who had started last season as first choice, have shown over the past couple of years that they are not good enough.
