No one knows quite yet what the effect would on the fortunes of the business. However, most people now know that Mike Lloyd, the head of the AA insurance business who was punched by the group’s former chairman in an altercation last year, is leaving the company.
Mr Lloyd, 39, was in the news after Bob Mackenzie, then AA chairman, punched him at a company gathering at the Pennyhill Park Hotel in Surrey.
Even though Mr Lloyd refused to fight back when he was assaulted, Mackenzie was dismissed for “gross misconduct.”
It is thought that 65-yea-old Mr Mackenzie probably flipped when it became clear that Mike Lloyd was being lined up to replace him. There were other reports that Mr Mackenzie was upset over a proposed plan to split off the AA’s insurance business and merge it with its rival Hastings.
The erstwhile chairman has since begun legal action against the AA, questioning whether due process was followed during his dismissal.
