Coalition partner threatens to bring down Merkel

Interior minister Horst Seehofer : I won't let myself be fired by a chancellor who is only chancellor because of me

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is on a collision course with her coalition partners as Mr Seehofer's CSU called for Germany's borders to be closed to asylum seekers. He warned allies he would rather quit than accept Merkel's handling of the migrant crisis.



Mr Seehofer will hold last minute crisis talks with the Chancellor later today possibly to chart a way forward.

The crisis that has raised questions over the future of Mrs Merkel's three-month-old government pits Seehofer and his Bavaria-only CSU against Merkel, head of its longtime sister party, the Christian Democratic Union.
