The Aztec 'skull towers'

Archaeologists discovered the shocking memorial near the site of the Templo Mayor in the 15th century Aztec capital Tenochtitlan

The 15th century Aztec capital Tenochtitlan is the present day Mexico city. According to research, this was where victims had their still-beating hearts ripped from their chests before their heads were cut off and added to a gruesome monument the size of a basketball court.

This was the gruesome location where human sacrifices were regularly performed to honour the gods.

In what must have been a savage spectacle, captives were taken to the Templo Mayor - or great temple - where priests cut out their hearts while they were still alive.

The bodies were then decapitated and priests carefully flayed the skin and muscle from the heads.

What beats the imagination is why those people could not ask why the gods they were supposedly worshipping would ask for the worshippers to be sacrificed to them. Well, the truth is that those so-called gods were evil spirits. The only goal the 'gods' had was to waste humans full stop.
