With all the espoused 'virtues' of socialism and communism, it is surprising that an eastern European country could directly call for American presence on its land. Despite painting the West as the enemy, many of these so-called communist enclaves know that nothing can beat the exhilarating freshness of freedom.
Therefore, rather than continue to endure the suffocating embrace of the Kremlin, the Polish government has asked America to set up a permanent base for an armoured division to shore up its deterrent to Russian aggression.
Believe it or not, Warsaw is also offering to pay to establish the base at an estimated cost of up to $2 billion.
The Polish defence ministry, in a written proposal, did not fail to focus on the words of President Trump, who warned last year in Warsaw that there were “dire threats to our security and to our way of life”. He added: “We will confront them . . . we will win.”
The proposal further states:
“A permanent presence of a US armoured division in Poland will help achieve that goal. Establishing such a force is necessary to present an unequivocal challenge and deterrence to Russia’s increasingly emboldened and dangerous posture that threatens Europe.”
