British MPs had wanted Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, to appear before them in order to personally throw some light on certain issues.

When, due to his schedule, he could not come, he did the next best thing by sending the company's chief technology officer, Mike Schroepfer.

Mr Schroepfer has appeared before the culture, media and sport committee but he refused to play ball. He dodged most of the questions put to him.

The MPs have now threatened Mark Zuckerberg with a formal summons to parliament after complaining that the executive Facebook’s co-founder sent in his place dodged nearly 40 questions.

They added that if the US billionaire did not come voluntarily, they may have to force him to attend a hearing the next time he sets foot on British soil because he owed answers to the social network’s 40 million users in this country.

Mr Schroepfer showed up before the committee to answer questions about fake news, Russian interference and the unfolding Cambridge Analytica data scandal after Mr Zuckerberg turned down the committee’s repeated previous requests that he appear personally.
