White House : Bolton becomes 3rd National Security Adviser in 14 months

American president, Donald Trump, has announced on Twitter that John Bolton, 69, would become the new National Security Adviser.  He will replace HR McMaster, 55, the three-star general who had occupied the position since February last year.  The new man will take up the position on April 9.

Paying tribute to the former tank commander, the president said:
“I am very thankful for the service of General HR McMaster who has done an outstanding job and will always remain my friend.

“HR McMaster has served his country with distinction for more than 30 years. He has won many battles and his bravery and toughness are legendary.”

The new National Security Adviser, a North Korea hawk, served as ambassador to the UN under George W Bush.  He was considered a potential member of the Trump cabinet in the weeks after the 2016 election but Mr Trump was said to dislike his moustache.
