Theresa May, Emmanuel Macron, Angela Merkel and Donald Trump said the Russians were behind the nerve agent attack
In a joint statement, the leaders of France, Germany, the US and Britain all agreed that the Salisbury poisoning was the work of the Kremlin. They also said that the attempted murder of Sergei Skripal, 66, and his daughter Yulia, 33, was “an assault on UK sovereignty” and a breach of international law that “threatens the security of us all.''
Jens Stoltenberg, Nato secretary-general, added this morning that the military alliance had no reason to doubt the UK’s findings. He said that all members of the military alliance stood “in solidarity with Britain.”
New US sanctions were published targeting Russian hackers, social media “trolls” and spies who were accused of interfering in the presidential election.
The sanctions were imposed on five Russian entities and 19 individuals. They are the toughest the Trump administration has taken against the Kremlin.
