Evil genius seized over £1 billion bank robberies

British cash machines were among ATMs hacked in more than 40 nations

According to Spanish police, a Ukrainian computer mastermind who plotted to steal more than £1 billion by hacking into banks and ordering cash machines to spew out notes has been seized.

The man, named only as Denis K, was taken on March 6. He was responsible for devising malware used by a gang to attack financial institutions in more than 40 countries, including Britain, the second worst affected nation.

Denis K, a computer programming graduate who has never had a job, was seized at his luxury villa in Alicante, southeastern Spain. Although he was born in Russia, he took Ukrainian citizenship and moved to Spain in 2014.

He owns two £1 million houses. Officers seized two BMWs each worth £130,000 and jewellery valued at £500,000. Spanish police also arrested two other Ukrainian men.
