Luis Moreno Ocampo, the former chief prosecutor for the International Criminal Court, wanted Angelina Jolie to take part in a honeytrap in order to snare one of Africa's most wanted warlords.
According to Ocampo, activist actress Angelina Jolie had suggested luring Ugandan fugitive Joseph Kony to a dinner in the Central African Republic.
Leaked ICC documents revealed that the prosecutor had hoped to plant Jolie, and her husband Brad Pitt, with US special forces close to Kony's stronghold.
A haul of 40,000 documents obtained by the French website Mediapart also reveal attempts to enlist other Hollywood stars.
The actress and humanitarian campaigner had always supported the work of the court, including attending the trial of Congolese warlord Thomas Lubanga Dyilo.
At a point, Jolie, 42, responded to Mr Ocampo, saying in one email: 'Brad is being supportive. Let's dicuss logistics. Much love Xxx.'
Kony is accused of rape, murder, enslavement and the enforced conscription of children in Northern Uganda while leader of the Lord's Resistance Army.
