Many people have criticised the ‘vain’ president for spending an excessive amount just to ‘hide his real face’
Emmanuel Macron is a man who takes pride in his appearance.
But it seems like he’s placing a little too much priority on what he looks like. He’s the youngest president of France since Napoleon so he’s very aware that the spotlight and pressure is on him.
It turns out he has spent £8,000-a-month on makeup since becoming the French president.
The 39-year-old, who was once an award-winning actor as a student, claims an attractive public image is essential.
Yet many people have criticised the ‘vain’ president for spending an excessive amount just to ‘hide his real face’.
A member of the opposition conservative Republicans party allegedly said: ‘He thinks nothing of spending thousands on himself, at a time when he is just about to start cutting jobs.
‘It seems that he just wants to hide his real face. It would be interesting to see what the first lady Brigitte is spending on make-up too!’
According to Le Point news magazine, she has already handed him two separate bills, one for £9,000 and the other for £15,000. Mr Macron reportedly uses a makeup-artist, known only as ‘Natacha M’, before every public appearance, whether that’s in a TV studio or outside a historical monument.
A spokesman for the president said: ‘We called in a contractor as a matter of urgency’.
His aides added that his makeup bill would be significantly reduced in the future and that his predecessors had also spent a great deal on their personal image.
This comes as Macron’s popularity is declining according to opinion polls.
Only 37% approve of what Macron is doing, down from a high of 57% following his election in May.
