Cats are lovely, but fickle beasts.
They’ll either love you immediately, running up to slam
their head into your hand and weave between your legs,
or they’ll reject you with an unbearable cruelty that leaves
 you hurt and humiliated.

Take Nancy, for example.
Or they’ll love you, then suddenly
switch to scratching your hands off for rubbing their
tummies (which they always seemed to like before).
Nancy is a black and white cat who belongs to
commissioning editor Steve Gardner.
‘She’s extremely gentle and very shy,’ Steve says
‘Whenever we have friends round she hides in
the wardrobe until they leave.’
So she’s a very sweet, gentle cat in general.

But for some reason, Nancy took a strong dislike to the cleaner, who’d popped round to Steve’s to clean and ended up trapped in the bedroom.
Steve received the following panicked message from his cleaner: ‘Hello Stephen. Your cat is hostile to me.
‘He jumped over me with bare[d] teeth. I’m in your bedroom and I can not go out.
‘I’m sorry but I can not go on cleaning your home.’
Oh dear. Trapped in a bedroom by an aggressive cat. We’ve all been there.

Thankfully, the cleaner managed to get out – but Nancy was in hot pursuit.
‘I came out of your house,’ the cleaner texted. ‘The cat chased me to the door. I’m sorry I could not clean up.’
Steve tells us he had to check the cleaner was at the right house, because he was shocked Nancy would be so aggressive.

The cleaner is now not answering Steve’s calls.
We hope she’s okay, and hope Nancy feels very proud of herself.
