KOHL, FORMER GERMAN CHANCELLOR, IS DEAD

Helmut Kohl, the unifier of Germany, died yesterday at the age of 87.  About the departed leader, the first President Bush said that he was mourning the loss of a true friend whom he considered as one of the greatest leaders in post-war Europe.

Russian leader, President Putin credited Kohl with ''playing a key role in putting an end to the Cold War and the reunification of Germany.''
