Russian warship crashes into ship carrying livestock
A Russian navy ship has sunk after it collided with another boat off the coast of Turkey.
All 78 people on board the research ship Liman were rescued, according to Turkey’s Coastal Safety Authority.
It was originally reported that 15 sailors were missing, but it is believed everyone has been accounted for.
The navy vessel sunk in the Black Sea near Istanbul after it ‘sustained a hull breach due to a collision’, Russia’s defence ministry said in a statement.
The other boat involved, Ashot-7, was carrying livestock and bound for Togo, broadcaster NTV said.
They crashed in fog and low visibility, according to shipping agent GAC.
Other Russian navy ships and a plane have been sent to the area.
