PIONEERING ELECTRIC PLANES

A company, Wright Electric, has had talks with Easyjet over its plan for electric aircraft.  There is no doubt that battery-powered  aircraft would be cheaper to run considering that, currently, aviation fuel is the biggest expense for airlines.  As far as Easyjet is concerned, all would depend on how rapidly battery technology develops.

Should the development of battery technology continue unhindered, the plane will be all-electric.  The alternative is for the Wright Electric plane to be a hybrid which uses less aviation fuel than current aircraft.

According to Jeff Engler, Wright Electric co-founder, an electric plane would be less loud than a fuel plane.  Engler continued, 'The way we've designed our plane is to have modular battery packs for quick swap using the same cargo container that's in a regular airplane.'
