It was designed for a British owner, who asked for the yacht to be made with wood because it would last longer than steel and be more flexible for manufacturing and repairs.
The triple decker boat, which may look similar to other mega-yachts, has a retail price of 18million euros.
It has distinctive wooden decking throughout, a master cabin with a bathroom, office and a dressing room, which takes up an entire floor.

   

      

 

In addition, there are four guest cabins, a captain’s cabin and three crew cabins.

It can travel at 16.5 knots and there is also a spa, gym and a beachclub.
The yacht was built by Turkish company Mengi Yay, which has been in business for more than 50 years, and took 18 months to complete.
Only a handful of shipbuilders across the globe build wooden yachts and the Aquarius is thought to be the largest wooden superyacht built to date.

Bahadir Sen, of Mengi Yay, said: “The first boats sailing all around the world were made of wood. So, wooden boat building is as old as human history.
“Now, we all are sure that this material has proven itself for durability and reliability.
“It is both economic and fast as it is a lighter boat with the same machinery.
“Classic and old-style boats are now only used by enthusiasts. However, the gulet style (wooden vessels) and classic boats are quite common in the southern part of Turkey, Bodrum.
“There’s an expression called ‘Bodrum’s Gulet’ and such boats are frequently used for touristic purposes as daily trip boats.

The sleek boat is made out of plywood and the outer shell has been laminated and painted

“We have built steel, aluminium and wooden yachts in our Mengi Yay shipyard since 1964.
“This yacht was made of wood by special request from the customer who is a British owner.
“We don’t hesitate to use wood material because of labour advantages, ability to make rapid changes in ongoing projects, natural isolation and insulation.
“Wood is more flexible than steel. Also laminated wood is more durable than fibre reinforced plastic and glass reinforced plastic and close to steel.”
