Chelsea to win the league by 7pts, but computer predicts bad news for Arsenal

Chelsea have been predicted as clear Premier League winners this season by Sports Analytics Machine (SAM), a super-computer built by professor Ian McHale.
The machine, which makes predictions based on form so far this season and a number of other factors, also sees Arsenal finishing outside of the top four for the first time since 1995/96, and below rivals Tottenham for the first time since 1994/95.
SAM’s predictions see Spurs move up into second place, overtaking Liverpool as Chelsea’s main challengers and claiming their highest finish since they also ended as runners-up in 1962/63.

SAM takes into account a wide range of factors to work out match results, looking at average performances so far and calculating what that means for the remaining fixtures. It is based on players remaining fit and continuing with their average performance levels, so an injury to Chelsea striker Diego Costa or Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli, for example, would have a significant impact on these predicted outcomes.
The predictions are subject to change if major players pick up injuries, but few would argue that Chelsea look clear favourites to lift the Premier League trophy come the end of the season.
The Blues have been in sensational form of late, winning 13 top flight matches in a row before that run was surprisingly halted by Tottenham in a 2-0 defeat at White Hart Lane.
SAM’s predictions would see current champions Leicester City also finish in that position in May, while Hull City, Swansea City and Sunderland are tipped as the three sides most likely to be relegated.
