It can hardly be disputed that the Middle East is a hotbed of religious and political rascality. The history of the region speaks for itself. This simply means that, for world peace, the planet's sole superpower, United States, cannot afford to wash her hands off the volatile region. President Trump's body language portrays the fact that if he has his way, America would abandon the region.

The president has said that the Americans are withdrawing from Syria. This can only create a vacuum which will lead to other things coming into the equation. Already, Turkey is being emboldened to start executing its design for the region in the light of the imminent vacuum. Russia and China will also be watching the situation closely.

The truth is that the US has a strategic responsibility to ensure peace in the Middle East. It is part of her prophetic destiny. In any case, two of America's closest allies, Israel and Saudi Arabia, are important players in the region and both countries are always targets of adversarial politics by other countries in the region. Then there is the need to ensure a steady flow of oil so that the wheel of the world's economy does not come to a shuddering halt with all the attendant consequences.

The concerns of the US president are understandable. The continued stay of the Americans in Syria and other parts of the Middle East is costing a lot of American lives and money. This is the very reason why the US should revamp and refresh her friendship with her European allies so that they can share the burden with her.

One can imagine that the Iranians will be salivating at the prospect of America's withdrawal from Syria. It is a mark of the bellicosity of the Islamic republic that the Saudis have sent an SOS to the Americans. In response, the US is deploying 2,000 more troops to Saudi Arabia due to attacks blamed on Iran.
