Top researchers have grand plans to build the world's most powerful laser by 2023

Grand plans for the world's most powerful laser

China builds laser 10 TRILLION times the intensity of the Sun

The Chinese are on the verge of completing a mega-laser 'Station of Extreme Light' that could emit enormously powerful laser pulses that create 'extremes of temperature not normally found on Earth.' This could be operational as soon as 2023.

The amazingly powerful pulses could be targeted at incredible precise spots measuring just three micrometers across – that's 2000 times less than the thickness of a standard pencil.
The new laser will be known as the 'Station of Extreme Light', and will produce "extremes of temperature not normally found on earth"

The idea is to achieve a phenomenon known as "breaking the vacuum", whereby electrons are torn away from positrons (their antimatter counterparts) in the empty vacuum of space.

If the new laser eventually becomes operational, it could give scientists a new way to accelerate particles for advanced physics research.
