The South African president, Mr Jacob Zuma, has been asked to leave

The executive committee of the ruling African National Congress has now told the President that he must leave office.
The unanimous decision that it is time for Mr Zuma to stand down was reached by the party’s executive at a private meeting during a conference outside Pretoria.
The president has the right to remain in charge until the end of his second term next year. However, many observers say that he could be forced out in a matter of days.
The president could be further pressured into leaving office if his party voted to recall him. There is also the possibility that the corruption charges he is fighting in court could be used as leverage against him. He could be asked to fall on his sword.
