47-year-old Aude Picard-Wolff, a mayor from Morette, near Grenoble, has written to her 73 colleagues on the council calling for an end to the time-consuming ritual of kissing.
This is despite the fact that a greeting kiss has been exchanged by women with colleagues everywhere in France for decades.
“I’ve had enough kissing 73 district councillors. I want to be able to arrive on time and do like the men and shake hands instead of giving the two usual kisses. Women kissing women and men was a nice gesture that no longer means anything. It was unhygenic and wasted time.''
Surprisingly, she was backed by colleagues, and her call has struck a chord in France.
