The British mother jailed in Iran is to appear in court in December on new charges of creating propaganda against the state.  This new case could double her initial five-year sentence.

These latest charges against Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a 38-year-old mother, were raised after Boris Johnson mistakenly suggested that she had been training journalists in Tehran when she was arrested for being a spy last April.

The Foreign Secretary's comments were viewed by the Iranian judiciary as proof of her guilt. This was despite the fact that both her employers, the Thomson Reuters Foundation, and her family had repeatedly maintained that she was on holiday when she was seized.

Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian, was warned about the new case in a court session on November 4 even though she has already served 14 months of her initial 5-year sentence.

She will now appear in court on December 10.
