With the growing animosity between the EU and Donald Trump, Brussels chiefs are weighing up their options. There are now proposals to create a Brussels-led defence force. This will enable the EU to act alone in global disputes. German Chancellor had earlier stated that the EU could no longer rely on America as partner.
It is being proposed that member states could integrate their armies and weapon-buying programmes, with synchronised defence planning and intelligence-sharing so troops are available for rapid deployment across the world.
The proposed defence force would work alongside NATO.
