The American President is facing impeachment
Republicans have often said that the impeachment is a politically-motivated 'witch hunt' by Democrats who have still not accepted Trump's 2016 election victory. However, a closer look would reveal that the president himself has often played into the hands of his political enemies.
Ideologies apart, any independent observer would say that the American President operates with a mixture of overconfidence and daredevilry, a style which he probably thought he could sustain through populism.
Now, in an unusual move, 750 prominent figures including professors from Harvard, Yale and Stanford, many of whom perhaps are not Democrats, have written an open letter urging the House to vote to impeach President Trump.
The House is due to vote Wednesday on two articles of impeachment against Trump - one alleging that he violated his oath of office by soliciting Ukraine to smear rival Joe Biden, and a second that he obstructed the subsequent investigation.
The academics argue that Trump's 'abuses of power' are 'precisely what the [founders] had in mind as grounds for impeaching and removing a president.'
Surprisingly, despite extensive evidence laid out in those House committee hearings, the president denies any wrongdoing.
The fact that Mr Trump is not a traditional politician has certainly been responsible for his style of leadership as a political chieftain. He had always being a businessman. As a businessman he believed there were no limits that could not be breached and no boundaries that could not be crossed in order to achieve his goals. This much is clear from the records of his past business dealings.
When he became a politician he failed to re-invent himself. He assumed he could use the methods and style of a businessman. This is what landed him in trouble.
The President, with all the backing of the Republican Party, is probably beginning to accept that he may have to operate within the law.
It is hoped that the leader of the Western world would learn all the necessary lessons for the peace of his friends and foes alike.
