Dance of death : Carnage in Kabul

63 wedding guests were abruptly despatched to an untimely eternity on Saturday night in Afghanistan as they celebrated with the new husband and wife who surprisingly survived the attack. Therefore, when president Ashraf Ghani described the killings as inhumane, you begin to wonder, are there humane killings?

The terrorist attack was particularly tragic considering that the US and Taliban are in the process of thrashing out a peace deal ahead of the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. One would have expected every peace lover in the war-torn country to welcome the peace deal but that is if you are not ISIS who have claimed responsibility for the bombing.

The blast ripped through a packed wedding hall where 1,200 guests had gathered

The suicide bomber, also brightly dressed, had been dancing with others when he detonated his explosive vest. Aziz Khan, who was himself injured said, “The explosion occurred in the men’s section when they were dancing and celebrating. There were plumes of smoke everywhere, shouts and cries were heard. People were searching for their family members running over the bodies.”

The groom, Mirwais, was inconsolable. He said: “The blast has changed my happiness to sorrow. My bride and my family are in shock and the bride keeps fainting. I lost my loved ones, I will never see happiness in my life again, I can’t attend the funerals I am weak and broken, this won’t be the last suffering for Afghans, it will continue”.
