2019 Women's World Cup : The ruthless machine also known as the US Women's soccer team

Thailand's Women's team were put to the sword by the US

After a torrid encounter with the US team at the ongoing Women's World Cup in France, members of Thailand's Women's team were in tears. This was for obvious reasons. The Thai women were taken apart by the World's number one soccer outfit.

It was beautiful to see as Alex Morgan and her team ran riot to set a new World Cup record beating their Thai counterparts by 13 goals to nil.

It was however disgusting to see the reaction of a section of the World press to the victory of the US team. The women were castigated for supposedly celebrating their goals. Canadian journalist Kaylyn Kyle exploded in rage, perhaps out of envy : ''They are the No 1 team in the world for me, I'm disgusted, honestly.''

Alex Morgan : The Lionel Messi of US soccer

I would say that the criticism of the team was hypocritical for the following reason: Would people have reacted the same way if the US men's team had won a World Cup match with same margin of goals? Probably not.

The saddest part of it all was that the criticism was led mostly by other women and it just confirms that women are their own worst enemies.

The US players were just simply expressing themselves on the pitch. They should be celebrated for it and not lambasted. They should not be made to feel guilty for winning. Only those who have a loser's mentality would criticise a winning team.

Rather than lambast these players, people should be talking of how their pay can be improved. Currently, in the American soccer league, a woman earns only about 40% of a man's salary. Yet, the men's team are languishing in 24th place in the World rankings.
