Duterte described Catholic bishops as useless fools who should be killed

More than most countries around the world, Philippines has, for a long time, faced a serious drugs problem. The country's president, Rodrigo Duterte, as a result, began a war on drugs in 2016.

Not surprisingly, the president and his drug war are backed by many Filipinos who are fed up with high crime rates and a slow-moving judicial system.

However, the downside of this war is that too many people are being killed. Estimates suggest that nearly 15,000 suspected drug dealers and users have been killed since Duterte announced his war on drugs. The Church and rights groups say that this may amount to crimes against humanity.

Of a truth, no sane human would support the extra-judicial killing of other humans. Therefore, the president may need to review his method of fighting the war considering that there must be respect for the sanctity of human life. People should not just be killed, they could be imprisoned. This is because they could still repent and turn their lives around.

According to local media, President Duterte accused the Catholic clergy of doing nothing else but criticise.

The Church, on her part, should start preaching life changing messages to the people instead of the dead religiousity being offered at the moment.

No doubt, Duterte has good intentions. He should be supported by the Church so that people's lives can be turned around.
