It has been reported that three Russian journalists — a key war reporter Orkhan Dzhemal, 51, Alexander Rastorguyev, 47, a film director, and Kirill Radchenko, 33, a cameraman have been killed. According to sources, the men were seized and shot on Monday on their way from the capital, Bangui, to the town of Bambari.
The journalists were said to be investigating Kremlin-linked mercenaries in the Central African Republic.
There were confirmations that the trio had travelled to Africa to investigate the Wagner mercenary group.
Wagner fighters have been involved in the Syrian and Ukraine conflicts and are thought to be financed by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a businessman. The fighters are also thought to be involved in training local forces in the Central African Republic.
Friends of the reporters said that the men had wanted to look into Russia’s role in the country’s diamond, gold and uranium mines as well as Wagner’s activities.
