Ordinarily, stadiums would fill to full capacity to watch Manchester United games even during pre-season. However, this has not been the case during their current pre-season tour of America. The Red Devils could only muster a sparse crowd as they locked horns with Club America in the early hours of yesterday. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. 63,000 were expected for the game but only 37, 769 fans turned up.
The players the fans wanted to see were nowhere to be found. Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford have all been given extended breaks after their long stints at the World Cup. Alexis Sanchez could not get a US visa due to non-footballing reasons. This development has caused interest in the tour to wane.
The development has been causing concern for the organisers of the International Champions Cup, the pre-season competition in which United are scheduled to play three games over the next couple of weeks.
