Forte de Bregancon Presidential Mediterranean retreat was used by Charles de Gaulle
Not many French presidents favoured this historic fortress near Toulon as they believed it had brought them misfortune. Not surprisingly, Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande each visited Forte de Bregancon once but never returned.
However, president Emmanuel Macron is refusing to be hamstrung by the fears of former leaders.
Élysée Palace has confirmed that he and Brigitte, his wife, wanted a pool at Fort de Brégançon. The president has decided to spend his summers there.
It is understood the first family needed the pool for security because its supposedly private beach attracts paparazzi.
