The Surabaya Centre Pentecostal Church was one of the three churches targeted by a family of suicide bombers in Indonesia.

In the co-ordinated attacks on the churches, 13 people were killed while dozens were left injured. They were the worst attacks on Christians to hit the country in nearly 20 years.

The father of the misguided, unnamed family carried out one attack. His two sons aged 18 and 16 carried out another while the mother and her daughters aged 9 and 12 attacked a third church during a service in the second city, Surabaya, in the east of the island of Java.

The family recently returned from Syria. Indonesia’s intelligence chief said that he gathered that the attacks were the work of Jemaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), a group linked to Islamic State that claimed responsibility in a statement from its Amaq news agency.
