Mo Salah scores Liverpool’s all-important first goal
Over the two-legged quarter-finals, it would not be out of place to describe Mo Salah as the main thorn in the flesh of Manchester City. He struck first in the first leg just as he did in the second leg thus setting the pace for a decisive victory over the Cityzens. Liverpool won 5-1 on aggregate.
However, it must stressed that the Liverpool manager again got his tactics right resisting the Manchester City storm and then attacking tiring legs. More significantly, he also got the mood right, being positive, constantly encouraging his players. Klopp’s leadership contrasted with that of Pep Guardiola, who transmitted all the wrong messages to his players by losing it with the referee at half-time.
The chances are that City would complain about some poor officiating here and at Anfield, but they were deservedly beaten over the two legs with Liverpool being more disciplined.
