Reformist, but controversial Saudi Arabia's crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, has said that he sees himself ruling his country for 50 years
The prince has emerged as the most decisive ruler the country has ever seen. He has loosened restrictions on women and is spearheading wide-ranging social and economic reforms in the desert kingdom.
Conceding that only death could stop him, Salman said in an interview:
“Only God knows how long one will live, if one would live 50 years or not, but if things go their normal ways, then that’s to be expected.”
Prince Mohammed, who starts a visit to the US tomorrow, sees himself as the president’s closest ideological ally in the Middle East. He has forged a personal working relationship with Donald Trump’s son-in-law and adviser on the Middle East, Jared Kushner.
The prince has also accused Tehran of sheltering al-Qaeda and in particular the son of Osama bin Laden, Hamza, who has made a number of statements in recent years and is said to be in Iran.
