Israel acknowledged this morning that it bombed a suspected nuclear reactor in Syria more than a decade ago
In an ominous warning not only to Iran but to all its enemies, Israel has acknowledged its involvement in the bombing of a nuclear reactor in Syria in 2007.
It was this secret raid that helped to prevent Syria from developing nuclear capability.
Hear Avigdor Lieberman, Israel's defence minister:
“The motivation of our enemies has increased in recent years, but the strength of our army, our air force and our intelligence capabilities have increased compared with the capabilities we had in 2007. This equation should be taken into account by everyone in the Middle East.”
Israel had sworn to prevent a potential enemy developing nuclear capability. It is on record that in 1981, eight Israeli F-16s destroyed an Iraqi nuclear reactor being built by Saddam Hussein near Baghdad. The fighter pilot who dropped the first bomb, now Major-General Amos Yadlin, was involved in high-level discussions about the Syrian reactor 26 years later.
