In 2017, the Venezuelan city’s murder rate was 111 per 100,000 residents
A survey conducted by Mexico’s Citizens Council for Public Safety and Criminal Justice, has confirmed that of the world’s 50 most dangerous cities, 43 are in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Reports have also confirmed that nine out of ten murders in Caracas go unsolved and most minor crimes such as mobile phone robbery involve guns. Venezuela’s government banned the release its unflattering homicide rates more than a decade ago, so the Mexican researchers obtained the data by going through the records of individual morgues in the capital.
