Manchester City were in
majestic form as Pep Guardiola’s side recorded a 10th straight victory in the
2017/18 season. Goals from Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus secured yet another win
at the Etihad for the Premier League giants, with Amadou Diawara’s penalty proving to be a
mere consolation. The Citizens now sit top of Group F in the Champions League, having won
all three of their matches
thus far, with Shakhtar Donetsk three points behind in second place.
City are also two points
clear at the top of the Premier League after failing to win just one match this season – a 1-1
draw against Everton – leading local rivals Manchester United. And with their incredible
goalscoring prowess, they now have a better goal difference than any other side in Europe’s
top-five leagues. Former Manchester City hero Richard Dunne was certainly impressed and
insisted they’re not far from replicating Guardiola’s famous Barcelona side. He told BT Sport
after the match: ‘They’re very close to replicating exactly what Barcelona had. ‘The style of
play, the way they press, how quickly they recover the ball when they lose it – they’re getting
there.
‘And the amount of goals they’re scoring in the Premier League is amazing, it’s never
been seen before. ‘They’re very, very close to being a very top side at the moment.’
