After spending 100 days in office, only 36 per cent of the people think Emmanuel Macron is doing a good job as French president. It has been found that the president is surprisingly even more unpopular than Francois Hollande at the same stage in his presidency.
As Macron, 39, and his wife, Brigitte, 64, enjoy a holiday in a state villa overlooking Marseilles, his opponents are now claiming that the president deceived France with his promise of renaissance through a new brand form of government.
It is being recalled that Macron's Socialist predecessor, Mr Hollande, had 46 per cent approval rating after 100 days in office.
Mr Macron swept into office after winning 66 per cent of the vote in the May run-off against Marine Le Pen, the National Front leader. However, only 23 per cent now believe that France is ''going in the right direction,'' a poll has found.
Despite the fact that expectations were high and there was an impatience for results, Mr. Macron's aides are not perturbed that the honeymoon is over. The disappointment has been fed by announcements of tax rises, benefit cuts and perceived arrogance in the president and confusion in the government.
